FFAI Committee has organized a brief precursor event to also be held at Holy Sepulchre the morning of April 24th. Please join us at ~8:45am on the East side of Holy Sephulchre, at the graveside of Thomas O'Bolger where we will lay a wreath and say a few words beginning at 9am.
In 1867, O'Bolger was a member of the Irish Republican Brotherhood (IRB) (the organization that ultimately planned the 1916 Rising) and a central member of the team sent to free Colonel Thomas J. Kelly, Chief Executive of the IRB, from the hands of the British in Manchester, England. The team was commanded by Ricard O'Sullivan Burke and their mission was successful. However, 3 men covering the team's retreat were captured, "tried", "convicted", and hung by the neck until dead by the British. These three men (Allan, Larkin, and Captain O'Brien) became known as "The Manchester Martyrs" and are still remembered by us in many of our songs like "God Save Ireland" and "Come Out Ye Black &Tans", among others...
